No, they are not right. Their perception and judgment are distorted by addiction. Few people get concerned about benign, casual alcohol or drug use. Your concerns are, no doubt, real. Not expressing your feelings about your concerns is not healthy for the user or for yourself. Don’t be surprised that you are not getting the response you are looking for. Your family member may be too frightened and ashamed to face this problem honestly. That doesn’t mean you need to stop trying. It may, however, mean finding a more effective way to deal with this worrisome and stressful situation. Our Family Member programs do that.
